I think the opposite.
I received my Y710 a few days ago and proceeded to remove the D partition, add a 20gb partition at the end for linux, resize my C to fill the empty space, and install the latest release (8.04) of ubuntu on the new partition. However, after I went back to Vista I discovered my DVD drive was not showing up; There was no drive in either My Computer or the Device Manager, indicating that windows wasn't seeing the hardware at all. Linux confirmed the same: The hardware wasn't showing up, much less being detected as an optical drive.
The above would normally indicate that there was a hardware failure of some sort (hardware not showing up in multiple operating systems), but I could still boot off of live cd's just fine and while running a live cd, the drive would show up as per normal, and the drive had worked fine in Vista before I started playing with the partitions.
I did a one key recovery and the drive has been working since, but I think there may be some bios problems if the partitions aren't just perfect, as weird as that sounds. Any info from the official guys would be appreciated.
