First of all, I wouldn't have bought this laptop if I knew it would take this long, 3+ weeks, to make it to my door.
Second, I wouldn't have bought this laptop if I knew this would come with Vista.
Third, I wouldn't have bought this if I knew the quality of Lenovo's support.
Are their service decent? Sure.
Have I seen better? Oh, YEAH! I had a Dell desktop which had one dead pixel in it monitor. What did Dell do? Sent me a replacement in UPS 2 day and arranged the pick-up for the monitor with a dead pixel.
You can certainly tell that I'm not a big fan of Lenovo right now.
They charge 15% restocking fee for whatever mistake the customer made and all they offer is one more year warranty?
In my opinion warranty is useless. Like many people here, I had many PC's, Dell, HP, IBM, etc, but none broke down in less than 3 years period. My 6+ year old Dell 300m's hard drive died just two weeks ago. PC's usually start having problem after 3+ years usage in my experience, but that could be just my luck.
Guess everyone has a different situation. I have 2 PC's, HP C2D 3.0 GHz and Dell C2D 2.2 or 2.4 GHz running with Vista, and 5+ year old IBM Thinkpad X41 with XP.
I needed a decent notebook running with WINDOWS 7 to test a comparability of applications built/used in my company. Not another crappy Vista.
Well, I guess many people are happy with Lenovo's resolution, but I'm not.
Sure. Waited 3+ weeks, what's another 4 weeks, huh?
My excitement gradually died down with 3+ weeks shipping, then got crashed with discovery of Vista OS, and just disappointed with Lenovo's resolution.
I agree it's a nice laptop with a pretty good price tag and maybe worth waiting for recovery Windows 7 dvd for some people.
However, enough is enough. My patience really hit the wall with Vista and Lenovo.

Hi Mark,
It seems that no one really wants to expedite and take care of this problem. I asked to have a replacement sent... they told me to go online and order one. No way to expedite so another 3 week wait?
Plus the price is different now. Plus I'll have to wait at least a week to get my refund credited. That means they have my funds for 2-3 weeks!
I don't understand why Lenovo is so willing to lose customers. They've left little alternative but to buy one of your competitor's laptops. I'd do that today, buy you have my money. Why couldn't the supervisor replace this order for me? I've certainly spent enough time on hold.
I've always used Dells for home and business, but heard good things and really wanted to give Lenovo a chance. My experience so far is dismal.
Is there a chance anyone would really help me?

i just got my laptop - i was VERY excited to get it and then VERY disappointefd to see it loaded with vista. while i understand a mistake was made i don't understand the length of time to fix the mistake. i have talked to several people and no one can offer me a solution with a reasonable timing. while i appreciate the extended warranty, i nned to use my machine now. this is a TERRIBLE problem for me that not only affects me but many others in my organization.

Mark -
I really don't know a whole lot about computers as far as how they are set up, so have two questions:
1. If I wait for the disc to be sent to me, will this update the BIOS that I have been reading about?
2. I ordered Window's 7, 64 bit. Will the disc automatically load the 64 bit and not the 32 bit?
I just want to get what I paid for. In the meantime, I am going to dispute this transaction with my credit card until this whole thing is resolved and I have Windows 7 running on my new computer.
Thanks.

anyone thought about calling your credit card company to get a refund on your card? since lenovo didn't send what was ordered, we should be able to file a claim with the credit card company.

Mine just arrived today and I'm adding up the times right now. I ordered on Oct the 28th , it shipped on Nov 11th, arrived at my door on the the 23rd which is today. According to Mark the boxes should be shipping out by Nov 25 the so taking into account the holiday weekend it will be Nov 30th by the time they arrive at our doors. I just called Lenovo about the 5 days to fix the system. They told me that it will be 5 days from when they receive it. That does not include shipping to and from their location. They were unable to tell me if the shipping option was overnight or not but I'm guessing that it will be 3 day ground so the 5 business days is actually 11 max.
If I ship my system back to the them the same day I receive my box it will arrive at their doorstep on December 3rd. They would complete the fix and ship on the 5th businees day (assuming 5 day work week) which would be December 10th. Then I would recieve it lets say by December 14th. ( all assuming the holiday shipping rush doesn't delay anything)
The above numbers have a lot of estimates and I'm not knocking Lenovo. They found and error, figured out a fix, informed their customers and are extending their warranties by a year. I give them credit for that. I'm a Lean Six Sigma Consultant and appreciate what they are doing for their customers.
As a customer I was originally hoping to have my computer for work by mid November so I ordered in advance of all the Black Friday sales and was willing to pay a little more for it. Now I see all these great deals for computers I can get now at lower prices then the one I purchased over a month ago and still can't use.
This was the first time I ever purchased from Lenovo. Over the past 10 years I've purchased or helped purchase more than 35 systems for family and friends and 95% have been Dell's because I haven't had problems with them. I know others have but I have not and so Dell kept getting my business.
Right now I'm debating about buying a system this weekend from some place else and returning my Lenovo. Not because they have a bad system or they are a bad company or made a mistake but just because cost wise I can get a system with a similar configuration for less from a brand name I know.
In this case I think Lenovo may lose my business ( and that of my less techie friends and family) because I never used their system and decided not to evaluate it due to the length of time ( estimated 45 to 48 days) it took for them to get me a working model.

Did we not get a high quality notebook for an excellent price with this deal? Yes, we did. I challenge anyone to find a comparably equipped machine for anywhere near the price we paid.
Did the laptops ship with the wrong OS? Yes.
If you call getting a totally different product than what you ordered "high quality", then yes, we got high quality. When I order something that takes weeks to build and then takes 2 extra days to ship, I at least expect it to be what I ordered. It was not. Call it what you want, but that's not how you earn life long customers and referrals. You get the exact opposite.
And as to you challenge, here is just one option:
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx
I ordered this the same day I shipped my Y550 back. The dell with a custom configuration shipped in less than a week.

Yay!
I got the return box today and shipped my Y550 back to the service center. This thing was pretty fast. Can't wait till I get it back with Windows 7. On a different note, Fed Ex was superfast.
Thanks Lenovo!

Mark,
I called the CSR and received the RMA# & pre-paid UPS label.
I'm all but ready to send this baby once I get an outside box since I threw away the original outside box by mistake.
Do I need to set this back to the original factory setting?
If so, please let me know how to set this back to the original factory setting.
It's just unfortunate that my first shot with Lenovo did not work out well (my first try with IBM/Lenovo was fantastic.)
However, I still feel very upset about the resolution that Lenovo management came out with.
I just do NOT understand about the Lenove management's decision to to make the customers suffer instead of standing up, taking a loss on this because it's Lenovo's mistake, and make it up to unhappy customers.
All I'm asking is to take away this Vista and get me a new one with Windows 7 as soon as possible.
I mean, if Lenovo burned my steak, Lenovo should take it back, make a sincere apology to me, and get me a new medium rare steak I ordered as soon as possible. Isn't it simple and right way to treat your customers?
Instead of doing it right, Lenovo's management chose to make honest customers like many people here suffer longer for Lenovo's own mistake.
I'm very upset how I'm treated by Lenovo's management.
As soon as I re-pack this and drop this at UPS store, I'm going to call my credit card company and dispute the charge. I NEVER received the item I originally ordered.
