ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

I keep getting an error that states 'there is not enough disk space to preform the current task' while trying to download the first 70.90KB update file on my Thinkpad a20m. I first used ThinkVantahe System Update version 3.3, the most current version then I uninstalled and attempted the installation with version 2, which presented me with the same exact error. My hard drive currently has about 4GB free so I do not think size would be an issue for just some drivers and software. 26283SU Windows XP EN I would really appreciate some help. Thank you Michael (lucid)

Re: ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

A few possibilities spring to mind.

Maybe System Update is pointing to a disk other than the one you are looking at.  Perhaps a network share or a second partition?

Having too many files in the root directory can cause disk full errors when there is still plenty of disk space free.  If you have more than say 100 files and folders listed in C:\ try moving some of them into a sub-directory like C:\TEMP\.  I suspect that this might only be relavant if your disk is formatted as FAT32.

Maybe the error is caused by an access limitation.  Make sure you have write access to the system update repository.

Re: ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

I am having the same problem with a T61p.

It came with Vista Business but I formated the drive and did a fresh install of XP. Everything works fine expcept I have some unrecognized devices in the device manager.

When I installed ThinkVanatage System update 3.13.005 and run it, It gets to a point - between 16% and 27% in the task:
Downloading package information: Lenovo Help Center (1 of 1)

it stops and throws the error:
"There is not enough disk space to preform the current task."

I have 99.7gb free on my hard drive.

In the device manager I have the following unknown devices:
- Base System Device
- Base System Device
- Base System Device
- Unknown Device

In the tsvu_log_080318100135.log file i see this when I ctrl-f for that error message:

Re: ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

After installing or re-installing Microsoft Windows XP you may encounter one, two, three, or more base system device under the Windows Device Manager  This occurs when the drivers for the card reader on your laptop is not properly installed. To correct this issue either locate the drivers on any drivers or software CD that came with the laptop or visit the Lenovo website and locate the drivers for your laptop card reader.

Re: ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

You can find drivers for T61 here. The unknown device is probably the TPM.

Re: ThinkVantage disk space update error with a20m

Thank you for the help with the drivers. All the devices in the device manager are now recognized. BUT I'm still unable to do a Thinkvantage System Update.

I have a T61p - windows XP

I left the orginal restore partition from my factory vista install so when I look at my drive in the Windows disk manager it looks like this:
Volume                ||  Layout   || Type    || File System  ||  Status                                   || Capacity || Free Space

IBM_Service        || Partition  || Basic  || FAT32           || Healthy (Unknown Partition)  || 309 MB  ||  0MB
ServiceV002        || Partition  || Basic  || NTFS            || Healthy (Unknown Partition)  || 7.03 GB ||  6.23 GB
WindowsXP (C:smileyhappy: || Partition  || Basic  || NTFS            || Healthy (System)                   || 142 GB ||  93.82 GB

When I run ThinkVantage System Update 3 (Version: 3.13.0009) I get the same error as before:
"There is not enough disk space to preform the current task."

And what task is that you ask?
"Downloading package information: Lenovo Help Center (1 of 1)"

Where does this thing try to download files to? This error makes no sense. Is it downloading to the service partition?

Below is additional info from the logs. Please help.

If I go to "C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\logs"
I find the following logs (all modified the date and time I ran the update)
IALog.log
service_log.txt
tvsu_exe.log
tvsu_log_080328142609.txt
tvsu_log_080328142635.txt
tvsu_log_080328142653.txt
tvsu_log_080328150750.txt

In each I looked for suspicious lines
