Bad memory slot

I have a ThinkPad A22m 2628 PF1. I had 2-256mb installed for several months. A week ago my IBM started acting slow. I found it was showing only 256mb's  These by the way are IBM memory. I found out the outer slot was not reading the 256mb
an switched in the old 128mb. in worked for about a day and quit. None of the memory boards work in it now, but do in the other slot.
How much trouble is it to repair, Larry

Re: Bad memory slot

about 30-40 minutes to swap out the motherboard. Maybe 1 1/2 hours if you have never done it before.
AND provided you can find a replacement motherboard.
You can try to temporarily fix it by putting some pieces of folded paper between the RAM in the faulty slot and the memory cover. Start thin, and increase 1 layer at the time until it 'works'.

Re: Bad memory slot

Thanks, I will try that. If that does not work I will put 2000 Pro  in it, as long as the other slot with 256MB works. Larry

Re: Bad memory slot

This thread in another forum revolves around the T30 dead ram slot issue, but the same applies to other models.
