Is Z60/61 obsolete?

Hi,

to all. I own since Dec 2006 a Thinkpad z60m 2529FKG. Now i wanted to buy me a new one. but what's that on the lenovo page there is no more a z series?!?!??!?!?!?!
Is the product gone? What is a good replacement? I mean a t6x is no alternate.

the "Z" is gone, at the moment your only choices are to decide between the T / R and 3000 N200. (Although I have a feeling the 3000 N200 will also dissapear soon)

thanks for the reply! Do you know why the Z Series has gone? It was a really good product between the 3000 N2 and the T Series.

I believe because they realised they didn't need 3 series with the same format. The T & R series were going to have to convert to widescreen because the display manufacturers decided there would be no more 4:3 displays, so the Z got axed.

A good alternative to the z-series is the T61 widescreen; it's as good as the z-series except for the titanium lid.

Being a Lenovo employee I'm not an impartial judge of such things but I have used just about every laptop we've ever made (all the way back to the 770's and earlier anyways). I've been using a N200 for my workstation laptop now for almost six months so far with no problems. It's got the large widescreen that I got used to with my old Z-series system and a high resolution panel as well. The trackpad took a little while to get used to (I've used a trackpoint for years now) but I now don't notice a difference. The only thing I really miss is having a docking station at home and the office. After using a docking station for so many years it is annoying having to unplug cables every day. I may just have to look into one of those USB docks.

The screen sizes that the Z series was designed to address (wide screens), are now covered by R and T.

As andyP said earlier: I have a feeling that the 3000 n200 will dissapear soon. Why do you say that.

Related to the Z-series it is exactly as Andy said before, with the introduction of the T-/R widescreen-series the Z-series got somehow obsolete and thus has been moved into the other two Thinkpad series. It doesn't make sense for Lenovo to offer nearly identical and concurrently Thinkpad model series.

The Z-series was fine, personally I always liked the smaller more compact Z60t model with the titanium lid, but when comparing this with a 14,1" Thinkpad T61 widescreen model side by side, there aren't much differences beside the titanium lid. - Last year when Lenovo introduced the T-/R-series widescreen models, I've visited one of their events in Hamburg and carefully compared a Z60t with one of the new T61-14W models. In sum-up  I was surprised that these looked (beside the titanium lid) mostly pretty much identical.
