The buzzing from my speakers seems to be getting progressively louder. When docked, I have to lower the volume when I am not playing anything because the buzzing is loud enough to be stressful. When undocked it is a similar situation, only because the speakers are not as loud as the supplemental ones I use when the machine is docked, it is less noticeable.
I recently had overheating problems and the local shop opened my case, blew it out and put some heat absorbing gunk on the fans. The overheating is no longer an issue. However, it seems like the buzzing has been gradually increasing ever since.
I am pretty unsophisticated about computer repair and diagnosis. I am wondering if I have a fan problem, a sound card problem a software problem or a "it is time to sell this laptop and get a new one" type of problem.
Any help would be appreciated.

which model is your thinkpad? also when you place some heat absorbing gunk, did you mean they actually removed the fan and placed new thermal compound on the heat sink?

Lead org- thanks for being so conscientious about this forum. I see your postings everywhere and they are helpful.
Isn't the model number "System Model 9450GBU" that I placed below my name in the previous posting what you are looking for? If not give me some guidance about what you need to know.
Regarding my technical knowledge about the "gunk" I do not think that the technician removed the fan. It sounded like he just placed something on the fan casing that would help it to dissipate the heat better. If you think that this might be related to my problem, I could call and ask about it.
Are you thinking fan issue, sound card issue, software issue or time to sell?

i must have overlooked the model number, sorry about that. You got the Z61p, which produces lot of heat due to the T7xxx and FireGL GPU.
I am thinking the problem you are experiencing right now, is due to the gunks, so please do enquire about what they did.
Also, is your internal mic switched on??? If it is switch it off.

Lead_org - U R a genius! Internal mic muted and buzz disappears. Duh!!
I'll ask about the gunk anyway, just to see if I am headed for trouble. For now, I will enjoy a buzz-free Pandora.
