I have a Z61m 9450 HAG and want to change the original harddrive. The current drive is a SATA 150 Toshiba MK1234GSX with 5400 RPM. On the Lenovo site I cant find any product information telling me, whether the HD controller of the Z61m is a SATA 150 or a SATA 300. According to some spefications found on the web, it is probably a SATA300 controller.
My questions:
Does Lenovo provide any reliable information about the controller specifications?
Would a SATA 300 compliant hard disk work with the Z61m?
Would the performance increase with a SATA 300 disk with 7200 rpm?
Thanks for information

welcome to the forum!
the Z61m's controller can accept SATA 150 and SATA 300 hard drives. the interface has been limited to SATA 150 speeds to save on battery power. currently, no single-drive hard drive comes close to SATA 150 speeds so this isn't a limitation in real-world use.
a 7200 RPM drive will help make your system a bit faster and more responsive.

Thank you Erik, the information helps me.
Is there a limitation to the maximum size of hard disks on this Z61m controller?

Little did he know a couple months later new Solid State Disk hard drives would be sporting 200+ Megabyte per second transfer rates.
Im sad to find out this after I upgraded to a SSD.
