What I meant was to take the rails and surrounding from the original CD-ROM and apply them to the replacement drive.
Hope this helps.

You need to gut out the old drive (pull the bare drive out if possible) and install the replacement drive instead, then it will match...I'm not saying it's an wasy task, though...
Good luck.

George, I am beginning to think that you have not read my messages. I have taken the old drive out put the new drive in and it won't connect to the plug because the plugs are different. I have ordered two different drives, both supposed to work with the G40 and the plug on the drives are not compatible with the one it is supposed to connect to on the computer. They have different pins and bars. Taking the drives out is a snap.
What I need to know is:
1) Is there a CDROM drive made for the G40.
2)What is the FRU
3)If not, then can this plug in the computer be changed so that any drive will work
Thanks again

I am reading your messages very carefully, but we don't seem to be on the same page...
Yes, the connectors are different. That's why the replacement drive needs to be put in the cage of the original one.
To answer your question:

All applicable media drives are listed on the above page.
I honestly can't answer the question regarding changing the connector.
Good luck.
