Z61e: Problems Starting

[ Edited ]

I have a re-conditioned Z61e 0672 using Windows Vista for Business. Some time ago the cover was slammed down hard in anger (not by me) causing the screen to go funny - strange vertical lines replaced the picture. Restarting the computer appeared to solve the problem, though it recurred intermittently. Several months passed and the system appeared to have healed itself, but of late it has not been starting. It starts OK and then after about 10 seconds, the picture disappears. I have discovered that judicious pressing an area on the front of the box, just below the left mouse button (I know it's not a mouse button, but hopefully you know what I mean) causes the display to appear.

If anyone has any ideas as to what can be done to fix this, I'd be glad to hear them. Thanks

Re: Problems Starting

I decided to open the case and look inside. I found a memory DIMM was not seated properly, and I replaced it. The computer now starts - the funny thing is the screen disappears as before after 10 seconds and reappears only when Windows is starting. In other words all the DOS bits do not appear.
