Greetings. I have a Z61t laptop and just recently when I booted it up I got two errors: 0176 which is a security/tampering error and 0271 which says the time and date aren't set. From there I assume it's trying to load the BIOS setup so that the errors can be corrected but it asks for a password which I do not have. According to the manual removing the main battery and the backup battery will resolve the password issue, but it does NOT. Nothing I've tried has allowed me to get passed this screen. I can't even bypass it and just get the operating system to load. I've read tons of forum threads but so far nothing I've tried has worked. ![]()

The password it's requiring is the supervisor password which you will need to remember or find out from whoever set it.

Based on the information in the link the icon looks like the power-on password, which I never set. I tried the method listed on removing the batteries but even if I don't try to access the bios setup utility and let the laptop boot normally it still prompts for a password.
Also, I notice that sometimes it gives me error 0251 and says it's using system defaults so why does it still have a power-on password if it's using the defaults? It gave me that error because I don't have the CMOS battery installed.

The illustrations are a little old and outdated, but take it from me, the power on symbol is the same as the supervisor password symbol. You need to remeber or find out the supervisor password.
