3000 N100 Sound Card problem

I bought this laptop from a friend. The sound hasn't worked since I got the computer. My friend said he used an external sound card and it worked fine. But under device manager, it says the current sound card is working properly. Yes, the volume is up, no, the sound is not muted, I have tried through headphones and externally powered speakers through the headphone jack. Buying a new external sound card is the last option i want to consider, but I have even tried downloading new driver software for the sound card and it didn't help. The computer came with XP but has been updated to Vista. Please Help!!!

Re: 3000 N100 Sound Card problem

Hi!
I had the same problem, but I tried to find the soundcard chipset.
The chipset manufacturer is Realtek. On the site many drivers available including vista or linux.
I hope this driver useful

Re: 3000 N100 Sound Card problem

I had the same problem, I ended up installing the XP Driver manually.  it works.

Though feed up with Vista's slowness I have reverted back to XP.  it has been proved that XP vs Vista is twice as fast on the same hardware.

FYI the file you need is:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67400

my Model is the 0768-5FG but this file states:

3000 N100 (all models except 0689-Exx, Fxx, Gxx and 0768-Exx, Fxx, Gxx) but this is theonly one that works with my Laptop. in Device manager it lists this as a "SoundMAX Intergrated Digitial HD Audio".

Installation has to be done manually. you need to extract the installation file to a folder, then manually install this product.

If Lenovo Support is watching this thread, please fix this issue!

on a basic Vista Install the sound drivers do NOT work.

Re: 3000 N100 Sound Card problem

I just installed Windows 7 on my Lenovo 3000 N100 (0768-5FG)  same thing again!  no sound though it installs what it thinks it the correct driver.

Forced an install of 61ae03ww.exe (SoundMAX Intergrated Digital HD Audio Driver) and now I have sound again

I wish Lenovo and Microsoft would sort this issue out once and for all.
