Format old HD from Y410 as extra storage

MARK---  I had to install a new hard drive in my daughter's two year old 3000 Y410.  Had a Hitachi 160 GB and she filled it up.  Cloned with a new Hitachi 500 GB and everything went as planned.  Bought a 2.5 Thermaltake USB 2.0 enclosure for her to use the old 160 as extra storage. Formatted the 160 GB, but only 105 GB would format.  55 GB, I assume the NOVO/Windows VISTA section will not format.  Is there a way to format the whole disk and have a completely clean NTFS hard drive for extra storage.  There should be a way to break into the apparently locked Lenovo section.  Thanks
