Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Just to clarify, is everyone using the BIOS update found here?

http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=10

There is a 2nd website, which says is for  Product Type 4446 only:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-72514

I'm assuming that the 2nd link is the right one for everyone with the 4446 version.  The 1st link seems to be for a different version, with bluetooth built in..  Also note that the release date for the 2nd link is more recent (June 11th).

Unfortunately most, if not all the drivers are 32 bit, which is why BartPE is required to "live boot" a 32 bit OS like Windows XP (as fullmetal explained).  I havent tried other peripherals like the card reader and camera.. if these don't work in x64, i may have to just stick with windows 7 32 bit for now.

I'll try the 2nd link's BIOS update when I have the chance, and will post back to share the results.

meciz: follow this youtube video to make a BartPE. you'll need a windows xp install cd.

in windows 7, make sure to right click and choose "run as administrator" when running PE Builder. also in windows 7, you don't have to use img burn, you can just open the .iso file and burn it to a disc.

I can confirm that the webcam and card reader work on my G530-444624U under Win7 64 bit.  It's just this pesky BIOS issue (along with the fact that sleep mode doesn't work properly) that I'm waiting on a fix for.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

My 4426 sleeps fine with This Bios. However the brightness still doesnt work. i may try windows 7 32 bt pro and  see if that is the problem. And also, i realized that to use the barts PE on these models, you need to incorporate the SATA drivers, If you want, I can get the drivers and send them.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

32 bit didnt help. but it may be helpful to know that it stops being able to change the brightness during the "Completing Installation" phase So it is a driver that is the problem. Hopefully lenovo will have a proper bios for this machine that fixes the brightness issue.

how about your Bios screen boot time? does it show up right away? or are you having issues with the bios as well?

how many times did you try the sleep function? cause sometimes the sleep function will work like a charm.. and sometimes it will just completely crap out...

please let me know.

Thanks

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

fullmetal, thanks for your feedback.

Just a thought - you mentioned that you have a G530 - 4426.  Did you mean to say 4446?  I just noticed that the BIOS page specifically mentions "4446 Only", not sure if this would make any difference.

I'm looking for a way to contact Lenovo to see if they can come out with a fix as soon as possible - still looking for some kind of email link or phone number..  I'm hoping that they'll be more likely to do something if more people bring this to their attention.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

The boot time on the bios for the 4446 that I am using now boots in the "normal" time, not the extremely long time. I found a similar problem with another manufacturers laptop that prevents the brightness from working. the users of that brand used the older video drivers(im assuming vista drivers so as to not loase aero), and this brought back the brightness control. I am going to check whether this works or not.

Re: G530-4446-24U takes FOREVER to POST after BIOS update

Unfortunately it was not the drivers, or i should say that didnt help. Now we just have to hope that Lenovo gets out a proper bios for the 4446-24U that fixes the brightness.
