Ideapad G550 - shutting down all of a sudden

My Ideapad G550 shuts down automatically after a use of around 1 hr.

Guess it is due to heating... but how can it be heated within 1 hr and only for the last few days.

when i keep it on cooling pad it lasts for hours without going down.

Any ideas?????

Try bios update and check, issue should be resolved.

It all really depends on what your doing. If your just surfing it does not require much, If your playing it uses a lot more. Downloading can even make the HDD work more causing more heat. Even DVD's can in a way due to the spinning of the DVD. But Games are one of the heat issues. I have watched the temp when starting a few games and they jump an easy 10 degrees Celsius. And can just as easily jump up 20c more. All of this causes the cpu to get hot quicker too. And most shut off for pc's is when the CPU gets to 85c. Which can be done in an hours worth of gaming. That is most likely why the PC works fine when the cooling tray is there, it is staying under the shut off limit.

You can use speccy or speedfan to check your temp. It's best to check the temp while your doing what you are doing, just alt tab to minimize whatever your doing, if not it could drop 10c just by closing the program.
