Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

I bought my G570 in 01/2012, and very soon one bottom screw under the right hinge became loose and fell off. I was lucky to notice it and tightened it up. Last week, I noticed the case corner near the right hinge was cracking open, and the right hinge is loose and not working well to close or open the screen. I called Lenovo customer service and was asked to mail in the laptop to a service center in Texas for warranty repair(case# 8000179749).

Before mailing it out, I checked and found two bottom screws were gone: the one under the right hinge and the one under the left hinge. The case near the left hinge still holds together but is likely to have hinge problem soon if a replacement screw is not put in place. I moved two screws from the front of the bottom to two holes near the hinges, and this fixed the right hinge problem immediately.

I was happy that the problem would be very easy to fix by myself if I can get replacement screws, so I called customer service again asking for replacement screws. To my surprise, the service rep told me that no screws can be ordered in his system since it has no part number for screws, and I have to mail in my laptop to get the screws replaced! I was amazed why the company can only offer such a service option that wastes money and time for both the company and the customer. Sending the screws to the customer will be a win-win for both sides. I talked even to his manager, but no success. Why can’t small packages of screws be available in the parts system? So many customers are complaining about the hinge issue caused by loose screws, why it can’t be solved?  This is really a shame to Lenovo not able to solve such a simple problem caused by poor quality of its own products. I will try to find screws myself… Again, shame on you, Lenovo, for your bad product quality and poor service.

For anyone who wants to buy a Lenovo, I have to warn you to look out for these possible problems:

- The quality may be VERY bad. I never had the screw issue in my more than 7 other laptops, HP, Dell, …..

- The warranty and service are worse. You will need to pay for mail-in warranty repairs caused by bad design or quality of the product itself. Simple problem like replace a screw will require you to mail the machine back. Stupid, isn't it?

- Even worse, as many other customers here reported, the so called service centers may not fix the real problems, but try to cheat your money to fix other non-existent problems. What a bunch of liars and thieves! No wonder they want you to send the machine back to them, even the problem is so simple to be fixed by the customer. Watch out. Better not buy anything from Lenovo to save your all the problems..

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

I am wondering, has this problem been addressed with the release of the G580 laptop? I am no expert, but I assume that the model numbers represent incremental revisions. Does this typically mean component upgrades ie processor or also include fixes such as the hinges of the G570?

Any response would be greatly appreciated as I am considering buying the G580 but need a strong quality laptop. I have heard that Lenovo are the best, my friend has one with a metal case and it seems strong, which models are known for their strength/durability?

I also require a 15.6inch screen with i5, 4gb ram and 500gb hdd, preferably and usb 3.0..

Thanks,
Richard.

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

I'm so glad I found this forum so I can be forcefull with the **bleep**ty customer service. My Lenovo G570 did the exact same thing with the broken hinge/peeling casing. I looked at the pictures from a few pages back and it looks exactly like my laptop.

After being given the run-around, I finally contacted the correct number and was told this would not be covered under warranty. After demanding it be covered, customer service conceded and told me I'd be called soon with further directions. Two weeks later, no one had contacted me. I called back and was given instructions on how to ship it to their depot.  I was also told that if upon receiving it they deemed it was customer damage I would be charged for the repair.

I paid $20 to ship it. I was called a few days later and told the part needed was on backorder and that they wouldn't receive it until August 6. The next day they called back and told me they wouldn't get the part necessary to fix it until August 20.

If I have to pay for any of this, I am going to be pissed. They should be paying us or at least reimbursing shipping for everyone who had this problem. The fact that they made me fight for getting it covered under warranty really makes me mad, especially since according to this forum this has been an issue for many people since at least February and I called to get it fixed in June.

After reading this forum I don't even want my G570 back. I just want a refund. Having to constantly tighten and buy new screws is absolute bull**bleep**. What a **bleep**ty laptop.

Since I sent my laptop in I've been having to use my HP that I purchased in 2007. I need my laptop every day for work and having to use such an old laptop is definitely taking a hit on my productivity. But at least it still works and the hinges are still in tact, 5 **bleep**ing years later. Go HP. I will never buy a Lenovo again.

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

WHile I haven't had this issue occur, I would wonder if they didn't use any of that blue loctite thread glue when they assembled the laptops. That should keep any screw from just coming loose on it's own if properly applied. Here is hoping the problem doesn't happen on my b570.

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

So yeah, I bought the G570 in december and its not august the the left hinge is out. the right part or the fan grill broke. So now, My laptop can stay still without a book behind it. I've been trying to find hardshell cases but no luck. So what are my options at this point. From reading this thread, doensn't seem like I have any.

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

Hi

Is it Lenovo going to address this? going to do a recall, offer at least the plastic cover to have it replaced?

I noticed a long time ago that the screw got lost, then I used the screw from a different part of the plastic cover, then it got loose again, but this time there was no way to screw it again as the plastic that holds it inside got broken.

Would be nice to at least have the chance to buy this part from lenovo at a decent price, I don't care about replacing the case by myself, but I will not pay half the price to have the replacement part when more than sure it will get broken again.

Any answer from Lenovo??

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

I was able to have mine covered under my warranty after calling several times and refusing to pay for something that is obviously happening to most G570s.

Call and insist they cover it. Mine has recently been fixed under warranty and sent back to me but those idiots somehow messed up my hard drive in the process. I was greeted by a black screen with nothing but a recycling bin in the corner and I am unable to open any of my files. My desktop cannot be located. So continues the mess that I've been dealing with since April.

HELLO, LENOVO ARE YOU THERE?? This is on your forum. Obviously you can see how unhappy your customers are. Get your sh*t together and do something about this. Your customer service is unbelievably horrible.

Same problems. Very disappointed with the product. Left screw off. Case began separated, left heat fan grills broken. Wanted to throw away. No place to replace the bottom case or etc.

Re: Problem with Hinges on G570 model laptop

I have the same problem. The plastic portion on the left side kept breaking and the hinge has cracked the case on the left. This is the first time I had bought a Lenova thinking it would be reliable, but this disapointing. I still have my hp which i bought 3 yrs ago intact. This laptop 12 mths or so already going to bits. I wonder if they cover this with warrenty.
