Re: Replacing G570 fan

[ Edited ]

I've been asked to report input to lenovo but no answer yet ...

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/G470-fan-running-non-stop/m-p/661349#M35293

The odd stuff is that we know the solution to this problem ,

there is a DSDT bug in the bios and have the fix to be integrated (for free) ...

Do you know alternative place to make us heard ?

Does that ACPI/DSDT fix really fix your fan noise problem?

T420s users are having the same fan speed problem! 982 forum posts on this problem, and very few details coming back from Lenovo: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T420s-Fan-noise-Issue/td-p/443569

Re: Replacing G570 fan

Hello,

I took 3 days with the lenovo G570. The version of BIOS you have is 2.14. Watching, I could realize that my computer connect and turns the fan off. The range of values is:

Fan On: 59 º C-60 ° C
Fan off: 38 ° C-39 ° C.

This range also varies with time. For example, is often not yet reached the value to turn (59 º C-60 º C) if you spend about 10 minutes "standing" is turned on again and stops again until it reaches 39 º C.

Another thing I've seen is that the CPU is always busy, the laptop runs on Windows 7 64 bits, the process "system" always takes values between 7% and 20% of the CPU.

Sorry for my English I am Spanish

Re: Replacing G570 fan

where did you get the temp value ? TZ or Core Cpu or hdd ?

on linux i use those value :

# @param step : delay in seconds
# noticed that it could increase to 16C per 10sec
step=10

# @param crit : Critical temperature
# lower than tjunction=99999 100C 127C ?
# higher than 77C (max when fan is on) or probally 86C (observed when fan off)
crit=86000

# @param low : temp where fan should switch off
# 49C was ok it seems it's hard to go below 43C when ambiant is cool, default=41C?
# 35C on boot
#low=43000
low=46000

# @param high : temp where fan should turn on
# 55C was ok but may be maxgher than 43 at least
# should be lower than hdd 65C / still working when 74C , 86C ?
high=55000

Re: Replacing G570 fan

Do not use Linux. The data volume of the SpeedFan program regarding CPU core temperature, referring to the temperature of HD do not see any problem.
I've been a few days using the G570 standard and using it as watching videos on youtube, word processing and internet the CPU temperature never increases of 60 ° C approximately. Automatically when it reaches 55-58 ° C is connected to the fan and the temperature drops rapidly until it is cut (not usually take a long drop to 38-39 º C CPU temp). This morning the fan could be running 2 minutes continuously and then be off another 2-3 minutes even longer, of course all depending on you're doing. :smileyhappy:

When the CPU utilization is strong, fan speed jumps to another even more powerful, keeping the laptop below 80 ° C. This temperature not have as much as the previous monitored values.

Overall I think the operation of the G570 is more than acceptable, sometimes even scares me that takes so long without the fan running, but it heats up so little that I do not really need.

"Re: Fan never stops DSDT / BIOS hacking thread[ New ]

All,

If you have a G470 or G570 with fan that runs at high speed or continuously even when the CPU temps are low, we are looking for a volunteer to send in a system for engineering to look at.

We've tested on systems we have, and as often the case, is not easily repeatable - to make progress we are going to need to see an example system.  Please send me a PM and include G570 fan running in your title as I receive a lot of PMs.

Based on other fan issues we have worked on, they can generally be solved with a BIOS update.   Setting expectations, once we can recreate the issue, it usually takes about 30 days to get an updated BIOS tested and published to the web.

I'll look for your PMs.

Thanks

Mark"

We have 22 march 2012 and what? Nothing...wait for dead lenovo G570 users (maybe losers?), we have other, more important things to do, new models of notebooks are waiting for sale :smileywink:

Re: Fan never stops DSDT / BIOS hacking thread

@ smaaz I do not think it is luck, bro. The computer is new but before this I had to return to the store was damaged another G570 because the touchpad buttons.
Then I could also check that had fan problem solved. On the computer that returned to the store also kept the fan on the 38-39 ° C (temperature CPU) and start again when heated.
I think Lenovo solved the problem but for whatever reason not to share.
