I have a 5 in 1 media card reader on my laptop which seems to work fine with my XD card
but when i try to use my 4Gig SD-HC card it does not appear to be working.
Anybody have any ideas.

yagbar, welcome to the forum,
you need to add a little more information so that members can hopefully help. It would be usefull to know which notebook you have and which flavour of operating system you have.
If you happen to be using XP, have you seen this patch from Microsoft?
Andy

I have a 3000 Y410 with Vista Home Premium and I'm
quite sure its card reader does not support SDHC type cards at this time

Sorry Folks
As Andy pointed out I did not give you much to go on.
Product: 3000 C200 8922-48G
Operating system: Windows XP
Original description: Celeron M 430(1.73GHz), 512MB RAM, 80GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1024x768 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11bg wireless, Bluetooth/Modem, 10/100 Ethernet, IEEE 1394, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Home
I was wondering if there might be a software upgrade that could do the job, or is it going to be necessary to do a physical upgrade?
What might the options be?
Really appreciate the help!!!

Hai,
First of all, i thing u try to double check the following items,
1) Make sure the Hardware devides is all in OK condition which is no Yellow warning sign.
2) If all the hardware is running fine, follow the next step,
3) Make sure your SD-HC card is no protected by security (which is password set-on to your card ) and you might not be able to retrieve your card. Example, if your card is from Handphone, make sure u turn off/disable password/security before insert to your laptop, it's should be working fine.... Do u try other card too ???
I not seen that card reader have limit space of card to read
