Sloooooooooooow return from hibernation when using fingerprint authentication (XP)

When I turn security after hibernation, it takes over 5 minutes before my Lenovo 3000 n100 wakes up the fingerprint reader to let me log in. It's actually faster to reboot completely.

If I turn off security, return from hibernation takes under 30 seconds.

I'm using XP SP2. Microsoft says SP2 fixes this. Ha!

Solutions?

Re: Sloooooooooooow return from hibernation when using fingerprint authentication (XP)

this happens to my R61i too, when it wakes up from sleep/hibernation, the fingerprint reader disconnects and wait for 2 minutes before reconnecting then i can scan mine fingerprint. i did a total reformat of the OS and drivers using the recovery media provided, the fingerprint reader speed up to around 40 Sec. The problem with the fingerprint reader is that it is a usb device, therefore everytime you shut off it disconnects and reconnects, since it is a security device it must re-establish all the safety parameter and reload all the fingerprint from the reader's memory to the system and does a cross check to make sure the system is secure.

Well the above explanation is given by one of my friend's whom is working at Novell, accuracy of which i am not sure. Another way to speed this process up is to go into BIOS and switch the USB to always on.

Re: Sloooooooooooow return from hibernation when using fingerprint authentication (XP)

The USB power control isn't in the BIOS, I think. It's in the
XP - Device Manager - Universal Serial Bus controllers - USB hub root - Power management.

But turning it on doesn't seem to help at all.

I reinstalled the Omnipass software (from http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69805 Feb 29) and it goes faster when I authenticate my firefox master password. Maybe I'll try hibernation again. It may also have helped that I used jkdefrag to reserve most of the fastest part of the HD for free space before I did this.

Re: Sloooooooooooow return from hibernation when using fingerprint authentication (XP)

I tried hibernating with a password required. The Omnipass dialog now took about 84 seconds longer to come up, and came up saying that the device failed. A couple of clicks to retry, and and I was logged in again.

Well, 84 seconds is an improvement on 5 minutes, but
 - Omnipass should come up at the same time as the login box
 - the fingerprint window should come up without a device-failed message

Moderators, anyone listening? Got an answer?
