Starting in Safe Mode - N500

I cannot seem to get my Lenovo N500 to start in safe mode.

 

I am running Vista Basic and after completing a number of upgrades I get caught in a loop.

 

I have gone to the MS site and they recommend doing a recovery but to achieve this I need top boot in safe mode

 

Any help appreciated

Try repeatedly tapping the F8 key on boot up.

If you get a text mode screen with options, choose Safe Mode.
