To connect a hard drive into a USB port, you need an adapter or an external case.

Re: BIOS problems on G560

I already have hooked up a usb cable (SATA connector) to the g560's stock hard drive, which is plugged into my g560. However I cannot get the recovery disc for truecrypt to recognize the hard drive connected to the USB port, hence me asking AUP how he was able to decrypt the hard drive while it was plugged into the USB port. Thanks!

You may need to enable usb HDD/devices in the BIOS. And for future needs of recovery, the best out there is FileScavenger. It has a free trial. http://www.snapfiles.com/features/filescavenger-801-513920.php

I have recovered things from reformated by mistake drives. Pictures, music, and files are easy to retrieve. It's the much larger files that might not receiver correctly. Cheers!

Re: BIOS problems on G560

[ Edited ]

Can someone please give me solution to this, namely AUP since he actually got this to work out. I have my internal stock g560 hard drive connected via usb (SATA to usb), I have bios enabled to boot from the usb. I can enter bios only when my hard drive is not connected to the g560's internal SATA connection. IE I cant do anything if its connected into the computer unless its via USB. When its connected to the USB i can get into windows recovery but it doesnt recognize any specific OS.

With that said I need the TRUECRYPT rescue disc to recognize the hard drive via USB so I can decrypt it. It doesnt recognize the USB connection and says to plug the HD into the internal SATA port, and theres no way to run the disc from windows recovery mode that i know of. Im waiting on the Computer recovery Disks that are coming from Lenovo this next week. What do I do from here?!!?!?

Re: BIOS problems on G560

Connect that disk into a desktop PC and run recovery disk from there.

Should I connect the hard drive to the internal SATA in the PC and run the truecrypt disk from Startup? I took it to Geek Squad today b/c I got tired of messing with it and they turned me down. Sigh, Need the help. Thanks guys!

Re: BIOS problems on G560

All,

This is a problem with the Insyde BIOS. See similar issue with HP products (link below). I had had to install the hard disk to a different laptop with a different bios...it booted fine, decrypted hard drive (took 8 hours), reinstalled on the G560- booted fine- but now left with no encryption options. Tried Trucrypt and PGP desktop- same issue with both...

Lenovo, use a better BIOS!

Re: BIOS problems on G560

I think that the problem is the default boot mode (UEFI). But I'm not sure.

Re: BIOS problems on G560

Another one with the problem... just did a full disk encryption with truecrypt, the test boot passed fine but after finishing and rebooting I cant even get Bios options or Boot Options. As seen from the previous posts I ripped out the HD and put it on my Toshiba where Ive booted in from the resque disk and im now waiting...

Lenovo really needs to look into this and offer a Bios upgrade or something, its ridiculous not being able to have any encryption options.
