Windows XP on Lenovo 3000 Y200 ?

Hi All,

May I have your advice on the following:

I have a Lenovo 3000 Y200 laptop. Currently it has Vista home installed on a 20GB partition, which has 500MB free space.

I'd like to install Windows XP on a 500GB disk.

I tried installing windows XP SP2 (from the disks I received with my other PC) on a 380GB NTFS partition I created, but, when the OS installation gets to the drivers copying to disk, the installation aborts.

Now, could you suggest where could I get a Windows XP disk that would install on the Lenovo Y200 laptop ? I suspect a certain default driver is not compatible with the Y200 which is what causes the OS installation's crash.

I downloaded all the drivers for the Y200 from Lenovo site, but I don't know how to install these during the Windows XP OS installation.

Any suggestions ?

You need a generic windows xp disk, retail or oem.

Disk from other system will not always work, as you have found out!

Actually, the XP I used is OEM (that's what I got with my system).

BTW, I looked at the Lenovo download area for the Y200, and see that they have renmoved all the special drivers they had for XP, and now the only drivers they have there are for Vista.
So I have to change my plans and try installing the 500GB disk with either Vista or Linux (I'll try Ubuntu).

Hi Duck3,

As I write this, I'm downloading in the background: Windows 7, Fedora 11, and Ubuntu 9.10 beta.

Hopefully, one of these would install on the 500GB disk of the Y200.

I'm also trying to get my hands on Windows Vista media, so I could try that also (if all else fails).
