Hi Salsafreak,

Never did make a warranty claim. Had too much confidential on my HD and couldn't give up the computer for the return to Lenovo service center required. So, I have lived with it using a plug in microphone.

Serves as a lesson to us all. Always, always try ever feature of your new computer immediately after buying, even if you have to borrow a peripheral device in order to do so.

Some people can at least use an external mic! I use an N100 (0768). The audio device is SoundMAX. The mic doesn't work, internal or external. It's my first laptop where two devices are shown - one for playback (HD Audio 0) and one for recording (HD Audio 1). The Properties button for the mic is inactive (grey) and in the volume options it's shown as disabled. Is it even possible that only the mic is defective and the rest of the audio device is OK?
