and clean your unit. Also, go here : http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=880973

update all your bios and drivers.

curious to know, does this happen when the unit is idle ?

I would monitor the fan and cpufreq activities ... can you recommand a software to do that also on g470 ?

Quickly, lock the fan with a toothpick, use a vacuum cleaner to clean the heatsink from dust.
