Yes, that is a correct assumption, AFAIK.
If external works fine, problem is the lcd panel, cables, etc.
If external shows problems also, problem is motherboard related.
I, of course, can not tell you Exactly where the problem is.
You should make sure you have done everything correctly,
especially the cables before calling it quits.

MAJOR UPDATE!
Ok - i don't know what's going on, but i have decided to take apart my laptop (at least i'll learn something i thought to myself), and I took apart all the screws, but the case won't leave the frame (maybe it shouldn't be open).
For some reason i have decided to put in the Live CD of Lubuntu. IT WORKS!! I am now writing to you from the external monitor display, and the picture is FINE.
what gives? What does this means than?
I want to try and install win7 and get back to normal, but at the same time I am worried that if i'll restart it again - all will go wrong.
Could I have accidentally fixed the computer?
Could it be that Lubuntu right now is not using the NVIDIA GPU, and maybe this fixes the issue?
I am attaching a file here - of the system information. I did this just now, and you can see all the info about my laptop - maybe you will know what to make of it.

As I said earlier, maybe Puppy had a config problem.
If it continues to work with Ubuntu versions and derivatives (Mint is my fav)
there may be hope.
But the lcd panel is still WHITE?
Have you tried re-seating all the cables?
What is the make and model of the new panel?
Keep updating as you know more...

OK, read THIS page again. (White screen).
Cables, lcd panel, motherboard.
Those are the possibilities, in that order.
Inverter possible? Read THIS
"If the FL inverter board is bad, the LCD screen (backlight bulb) will not light up when you turn on the laptop, but you still should be able to see a very dim image on the screen."
So, I think NOT. (According to everything I have read, and bad inverters I have replaced).
Bad cables? Did you replace Complete cable assembly?
You could have got a bad replacement panel?
