Lenovo 3000 and Value line Laptops

Hey,

I just installed Win7 Pro 64-bit a couple of hours ago and lost the ability to adjust my screen brightness.  After installing chipset and power management drivers I still had no luck.  So I updated the BIOS with this file. 

Now it all works well once I'm booted into Win7, but it takes a very long time to POST when I push the power button.  I haven't timed it, but it seems to be over 60 seconds before I have anything displayed on my screen.  When it does start POST, it works fine at the expected speed.  It also restarts when attempting to wake from sleep, and the same problem as mentioned above applies as it must POST again.

Is there a more appropriate BIOS update for my machine, or is this a terrible bug that must be worked out?

After bios update, you should enter bios on boot and load default settings.

Save and exit, re-enter bios and make any changes you need to.

If you did not do this, note your bios settings before setting to default

so you can restore them.

Also, check the boot sequence on the bios, network boot may be set

first causing slow boot.

I've already loaded the default settings, and I don't even have net boot in the order.

There is no screen output when I push the button, it's not that It hangs for a while in memcheck or anything.

Have you checked into loading the previous bios?

Or re-flash with the new?

The brightness problem was probably just a

Win 7 driver problem.

Reflashed the new bios, nothing changes.

Reflashed the old bios, back to not being able to adjust the brightness, but boot time is as it was.

Also with the old bios loaded I still can't recover from sleep mode.

All the above worked well under Vista32.

I'll be looking for some BIOS fixes.

Hi,  I have the exact same problem, could you please let me know if you were able to fix this problem, and how?

I'm also running Win 7 x64, originally could not adjust the brightness before the update.  But now it takes at least 1-2 mins to POST.. 

I saw your other post in the thread "How long does your G530 take to boot up?", you suggested a different BIOS, which does not seem to run when I try it under Win 7 x64  (wrong version?)  I get the error message:

"Cannot load driver C:\Drivers\BIOS\6get18ww\PHLASHNT.SYS.  Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilige, please login again!

This driver has been blocked from loading

Error code: 1275"

I couldnt flash either from Windows 7 pro x64. I ended up using BartsPE to run the flashing program. I dont have the speed issue, it boots up with the same speed it always did. you should make sure you used the right BIOS. i had the problem once, but it seems to be working now. I still havent gotten the Brightness to work though.

as for the "Cannot load driver C:\Drivers\BIOS\6get18ww\PHLASHNT.SYS.  Please check your accounts, if you have no administrator privilige, please login again! This driver has been blocked from loadingError code: 1275"  message, this is because it uses a 32 bit driver. You cant use these drivers under 64 bit. my solution worked really well. if you  want to use and need help configuring the PE, i can help.

Thanks for your reply.  Could you point me to the exact BIOS update you used?  I used this one: http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/en/DriversDownLoads/drivers_show.aspx?ID=1350  it was reccomended by someone in another thread, and it only solved the brightness control and trackpad issue.

I'll check out BartsPE when I get home from work tonight, but if you could give me a direct link to download i'd appreciate that as well.

It is happening the same to me. I installed Windows 7 64 bits and did the BIOS update because of that issue with FN+f10 or f11.

Now it's working, but the BIOS starts after 1 minute. I was told that nothing will happend with the BIOS, the motherboard will be fine. A new BIOS update for WIndows 7 is coming, don't know when. I'll still use this BIOS update once the new one comes.

Nothing to do with this issue right now.
