I've upgraded my Lenovo 3000 K100 Desktop to Windows 7 64bit so that I can access more than 4GB of memory (32 bit limit) and before I buy more RAM, I'm trying to determine max configuration.
Will the motherboard be able to read 8 GBs or am I stuck with the 4GB?
The Chipset identifies itself as Intel P35/G33/G31 and the Southbridge: Intel 82801IR (ICH9R)
Depending on which chipset of the three P35/G33/G31 is used, there is a difference southbridge chip, and varying amount of supportable memory as a maximum config.
The P35 chipset supports up to a maximum of 12GB, and it uses an ICH9 southbridge.
The G33 chipset supports up to a maximum of 8GB, and it uses an ICH9 southbridge
The G31 chipset supports up to a maximum of 4GB, and it uses an ICH7 southbridge.
One can determine which southbridge they have by using a program like CPU-Z - go to the mainboard tab. You will see the southbridge listed there.
