Hi ,
... dont mix up threads ... its hard to follow, not for me, but for the community...
alltime classic theme splits the world ![]()
..could discuss till moon comes to earth ![]()
...think that could be better discuss in Lenovo community Linux Section ![]()
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/bd-p/
...give you a short answer..here
before we are moved by moderator into that section ![]()
by the way...(....second part of thread mix up
)
you can test via Live-Operated-System-CD or Stick ...how good does linux work...
If you really want to install a linux system on hdd ....without fear ...
try this http://wubi-installer.org/
you can install Ubuntu as an deinstallable program in Windows works exactly like the normal ubuntu 9.04
and the best of it..
It doesnt destroy the Boot F11 rescue and recover function in your S9e/S10e... i approved and tested it ...
have a nice late summer weekend....sincerely KalvinKlein ![]()

Hi,
pro & cons....
Linux due account management not easy to change something via trojans virus and so on ...
thats the most important point equals 10 cons ...
con ... if you have WLAN & BT there is no solution to switch off seperatly like in Windows via Fn-F5 menue..
con ... speed stepping isnt not so efficient like windows ... for example with 6 cell i get 6 hours ... in linux get 4:30-5h hours running on battery...
con BIOS update isnt easy .. if you dont have a windows ...
con codecs for mutlimedia are not so good ... some video stuttering , (using MPC) in windows well...
con some external usage like mobile phone connect ... there is no providing program for your mobile ....
con if you got problems there is a big community , knowing all ... but not easy to understand and you have to jump from forum to forum to get your information together...
but if all things running well and you have no special request you got a stable system..
windows cons
you have to manage keep system clear...need a clearing prog...otherwise its growing bloating up..
you have to manage a full functioning antivirus prog and alltime updating is a must
you have to updating system as well..
if you use an unpriviliged user account you get the problem that not all functions getting through i.e. EM will not working correctly as it does under admin rights... Fn-Keys will not do the same...
...reason i use mutliboot XP with Quickstart & WUBI installed Ubuntu 9.04, Windows 7RC
sincerely

Great kalvin I will add some more here
1.As you continue using windows your disk will need frequent defragementaion, but its the opposite in linux. The more you use the better your system will work! Isnt that great ![]()
2 .Yeah you have problems with codecs but just get the RPM fusion repository in /etc/repo and voila! you have all you want Mplayer,VLC and the rest including gs-streamer ugly plugins
3.Open office 3.0 is as good as Ms office 2007 works with OOXML files as well !
4.SE-Linux is a robust security mechanism none can match it expect Novell app-armour
5.Have you ever wondered of trying to copy a file to some other location while it is open or running? it can be done in Linux!
6.Install ntfs-3g and you can open windows partitions with read/write support from linux
7.Centralized area for updating, removing and installing all programs
8.And lastly no registry or DLL hell ![]()
