Lenovo G460 Linux driver?

I was about to make a switch to Ubuntu 10.04, which has been announced to be long time support by Ubuntu. However I cannot find any driver for it, the most important thing is that the Ubuntu doesn't detect Wireless adapter at all. Making it impossible for me to connect to the internet.

Is there going to be Linux driver for G460 available? Even the Windows driver is not available right now.

Try using the live version of it.I installed it today and it detected my broadcom wireless device and pulled in  the required drivers automatically.Which wireless device does your notebook have?

I have Broadcom 802.11n. Could you please explain what you meant by the 'Live version' please?

Download Ubuntu 10.04 as an ISO image,burn it to a cd.Reboot your computer and select the first option in the ubuntu menu "run ubuntu without making any changes".

Ubuntu will run from the cd itself,after you get the desktop go to System--> administration-->hardware drivers.Ubuntu will scan for drives and show an option like this 

Activate the driver and reboot the system.If you get a window like this install ubuntu

I have the same laptop and also installed Ubuntu 10.04LTS on it.

However, when I plug the headphones, the internal speakers continue to play sound although they are supposed to mute. Just curious: are you experiencing the same problem?

Yes, me too. It's the only issue with this computer, and that's really annoying...  

I've searched in many communities and forums in the Internet, and have found some ways to solve this problem... but no one of them work =( 

If you find a working solution, could you please write about it here?

I've solved the problem. 

To enable normal jack switching, you need to install specific drivers for audio chip. For linux, there is a deb package, which compiles and installs needed kernel modules. The package can be downloaded here: http://www.linuxant.com/alsa-driver/

It worked on my G460 under Ubuntu 10.04 with kernel 2.6.32-24-generic.

Anyone has luck installing Mandriva Linux in G460? i've tried it but fail to get wireless and sound working.

I am using Mandriva 2010.1 in G460 right now, everything seems to work well, including sound system.  For wifi connection, the simplest way should be use of ndiswrapper with Windows XP driver.
