Re: Linux Live CD on WiFi

Tnx Vjay.  I instaledl Linux  on my X200 from the LiveCD that I had.   I found a website that had a really good set of instructions for downoading it to a USB flash drive.  (pendrivelinux.com)

I took the X200 on the road on Friday and tried it on a public WiFI network using the USB drive and it worked just fine.  I do not think the flash drive can be set for read only (maybe there are units out there that can do this, but mine can not).  This would be a good feature to have.

The lastest version of Linux is not on the flash drive ...I could have downlaoded it from Ubuntu and followed the USB install instructions but my bandwidth allocation with my ISP is down to about 70MB for this month and I wanted Linux on the flash drive before I used it.  Next month I will download from the Ubuntu site and see how that goes.

Re: Linux Live CD on WiFi

I updated to 11.4 and it works OK from the USB flash drive (and the USB  is V1.1) .  I have no issues with the speed.

The desktop has gone all weird, so I went back to 10.4. Do not know what I did wrong. I think I will wait for a while before doing that again ... maybe some patches need to be applied or some drivers are still at issue.

Newbie at the helm may be the real problem. This is a bit frustrating but my T23 is running a lot faster with Linux thanwith XP.   This old old trouper is still my favourite laptop.
