Anyone out there use Ubuntu?
I am unable to install Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 on it. It just freezes with a blank screen when booting from cd or usb.
I tried setting "noapic noacpi nosmp" options on the kernel "quiet splash line", but no luck. ![]()
Any ideas what I can do to get it working?

Did you try with the Alternate Installer CD in text mode, sometimes the live system lacks some capabilities needed which are present after a successful installation. Having internet access during the installation is also important to get most up-to-date drivers and packages before booting the system for the first time.
Get the Alternate Installer CD from here:

Have you had any luck with this? I have the exact same problem, although I'm trying to install Ubuntu Studio 64 bit. But I also tried Ubuntu 64 bit and same issue. 32 bit works.

I have just purchased a Z560 and can boot a linux mint 11 Katya - x64 edition LiveCD, which is based on the Ubuntu 11.04 distro, and everything appears to be working. I have not yet attempted an install as I am still planning how I want to do so in a way to preserve the w7 included with the system for fallback purposes. Perhaps you should download a copy of mint and try it.

Hi Dave,
I would be willing to try Mint; I have no particular attachment to one distro over another. Just a quick question though - one of the reasons I want to install Ubuntu is because of the large array of multimedia applications available. Would I still be able to use those applications with Mint? I'm hoping you'll say yes seeing as it's based on Ubuntu....

I would suggest you check out the release announcement and notes to see if what you are looking for is included:
