CD/DVD drive in dock for the Lenovo ThinkPad X220

We have purchased a number of these laptops and included the docking station to allow our users to connect accessories. The problem I have is with blank CD or DVD media not being recognized in the drives on any of the laptops. They will read a CD or DVD that already has data on it, but they do not recognize any blank media. I have tried different discs and different media types and have not been able to get any to be formatted with the Lenovo X220s. In other computers running the same OS (Windows 7 Professional, SP1) I can format any of the disks. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Is your drive a DVD-ROM?

It is a DVD Multi Player Lenove Serial Ultrabay Dlim DVD. The X220 laptop does not have an internal CD/DVD drive so there is a bay included with the docking station.

This is a read only drive, it doesn't burn CD or DVD.
