Simply, I am not a techno wizard, so by dummying down your responses, I won't be offended at all.
I have a ThinkPad laptop T400 and a ThinkPad docking station and Lenovo monitor, all supplied by my employer. I also have a 2006 Dell Desktop that the monitor is connected to (with a KVM DVI switch - white connector) The desktop works great, mouse, keyboard and monitor.
When I press the "switch" the wireless mouse and keyboard work on the laptop seamlessly, but the monitor will not. It says the settings are not correct. I have tried to input those settings but it isn't working for me.
Do I need a VGA adapter for the docking station? if so, are there more than one kind? I would love for this to work, my mid-forty year old eyes would appreciate the big monitor.
I REALLY appreciate your help with this.

btw, I forgot to mention that the external Dell speakers will not work with the KVM switch either.
