I have a Lenovo branded keyboard
Model: KBRF3971
FRU P/N: 03X8201
that was part of a mouse keyboard combo that i had purchase along with my T420. The wireless usb dongle picks up my mouse just fine but does not recognize my keyboard at all. I've had to make do with a wired Dell keyboard in the meantime.
Funny thing is, i can't even find that model number anywhere online.
Any solutions?

I have the exact same keyboard (Same model and FRU P/N) and today, the exact same problem. Mouse works fine, and the keyboard is not working at all. I tried 4 pairs of batteries before deciding the liklihood of bad batteries was extremely minimal.
This is not a bluetooth device, so it can not be "unpaired" It works on the 2.4 GHz frequency via USB receiver and special drivers for that interface. I tried uninstalling the keyboard from the device manager and re-installing.. no luck.
Any advice is greatly welcomed!
Thanks in advance.

We're having the same issue. Keyboards going bad and unable to get the replacements to work. Mouse works, unable to to get the keyboards to talk. Some replacements come came with new USB donglles, some didn't. Instructions that came with says to press the connect button on the bottom of the keyboards. None of our keybaords have a connect button. Our Lenovo Rep. told us in that case just pull and replace the battiries. Guess what, that doesn't work either. Does anyone know how to "re-pair" a keyboard to a USB dongle? Are they keyed as a matched pair? How do you get a new Lenovo replacement keyboard to to talk to the system using either the old USB dongle or a new one - mouse is working?

Hello everyone,
We have exactly the same problem. We use more than 500 wireless combo and if anything is mixed or broken we loose all the elements. I am wondering if there is any special manipulation to rebuild a keyboard/mouse/dongle combo from 3 different elements.
This is bad even for Lenovo who has to replace the whole in case of problem. This is not very "green-it" behavior.
Any idea is welcome.
Thanks

All,
I've looked into this with our engineers. The keyboard and mouse are factory paired with the dongle and must all be replaced together as a set. Additionally, there are serial numbers on the bottom that can help you visually identify matching sets. If your environment includes multiple sets in a school, lab, office, etc, be careful that they don't become interchanged between systems or they won't work which could potentially lead to unecessary replacements.
I'm told that their isn't an easy process in the field to re-key individual components....

Lenovo Ultraslim Plus Wireless Keyboard and Mouse - US English
Option Part number: 0A34032
Asm PN: 0A35981
FRU PN: 03X8201
The mouse and the keyboard are paired to the enclosed dongle at the factory.
The mouse has a serial number on its bottom label; 440xxxx and the keyboard has a serial number on its label. Both serial numbers must match. Any mis-match will cause non-functioning items.
If a component fails and a replacement is required it can be ordered by the FRU PN 03X8201 (number located on keyboard label). A FRU replacement includes a new mouse (with dongle) and a mouse already paired and ready for use.
Keyboards in other languages will be identified with their own unique part numbers.
