Re: Ideapad evolution

hpholm,

Great photos!  Wonder if you have some other benchmarks?   Any kind of CPU comparisons?   How about collective weight?

I bet the S10e is on a serious diet weight wise compared to that L40SX.

Congratulations on preserving a great piece of history - and amazingly to see the system is still functional after all these years!

Thanks for your contribution here, and in some of the other discussions where you've been lending a hand to other S10e users!

Best regards,

Mark

Re: Ideapad evolution

Hello Mark,

I can't sneak a table into the forum HTML, so this will have to do:

1992 IBM L40SX

Battery: 2.4 Ah
A/C supply: 40 W
Processor: 20 MHz
Hard disk: 60 MB
RAM: 2 MB
Battery time: Max. 3 hours
Weight: 4 Kg with A/C charger

2009 Lenovo S10e

Battery: 2.4Ah
A/C supply: 40W
Processor: 1.6 GHz
Hard drive: 160 GB
RAM: 1 GB
Battery time: Max. 3 hours
Weight: 1.5 Kg with A/C charger

Ratio
CPU = 80:1
Hard disk = 2500:1
RAM = 500:1
Weight = 1:2.7

The second-hand L40SX cost me the same in 1996 as the brand new S10e in 2009 ...

The hard disk in my L40SX can fail any moment now. It sometimes rattle and cough in an unhealthy manner during startup - but almost 20 years and approx 15000 power-on hours is not bad at all! Everything from the L40SX is moved into MS Virtual PC for safe keeping.

I'm happy to help if I can.
