Dear Mark,
I have a issue concerning the purchase of Thinkpad R61, hopefully you can assist. My problem is i am looking to buy a Thinkpad R61 15.4" widescreen from Lenovo US but due to US export policies and other rules, Lenovo US cannot take my order. I am very disappointed as the spec i wanted is not available at my own country Malaysia and i can only get what i want from US. I sincerely hope that you would make an exception to allow me to buy the R61 from US with the configuration i want. Bearing in my mind the export policy issues, i have a solution in mind hoping it will work, only thing is your acceptance of my order.

Solution - Lenovo US accept my order with payment being make using credit card and i will arrange self collection from my side with all shipping charges bear by me

Personally i feel this is a workabale solution for both of us which is beneficial to both party. The solution above show my support and determination to get what i want, only problem preventing me to place the order are the rules. Any better suggestions to help me get what i want is greatly appreciated.

P.S - Please do not ask me to get from Lenovo Malaysia as i have tried checking all the appointed distributor and no one has got what i want.

Welcome to the forum!

For pricing or model availability reasons, there are a number of customers who try to buy through another country, often the US.   There are really a couple things I would ask you to think through here before you do this.

1) How to buy?  Generally, Lenovo does not accept international credit cards to purchase US products.   You could arrange for other means of payment, and some customers have used checks or other means to pre-pay, but I think this puts both Lenovo and the customer into an awkward position.

2) Ship to address.  Some customers have shipment made to a family or friend in the US, and then either pick up the system during a subsequent visit, or arrange for that family or friend to reship the system to their location elsewhere in the world.

3) Availability of service and support.  While you may find some creative ways to work through the first two points, I would suggest that you click here to check out the models that could be supported in your home country.  Plug in the 4 digit model type of the system(s) you are considering and look at the resulting list of countries in which warranty service and support is available.  I would suggest you choose a model that you plan to purchase that is supported in your home country.

In the end, advice is really all I can offer you on this.  It's not my position to set policy or terms for Lenovo sales.

Mark, I want to buy an R61 here in US for use in China when I go in couple months. Are there any issues I should be aware of for adapting to use in China (aside from warranty). Power cord ok? Chinese language? Thanks.

Hi, I'm confused about notebook models that Lenovo offers. I want to buy notebook with ThinkVantage™® Active Protection System™ I know, that R61e doesn't  have TV APS, but r61 and r61i models have. My online shop has mess in types, photos and everything. Could you write what is difference between these notebook, because prices are really different. On Lenovo website, I can't find any conntact, who could I ask this question. No informations, where I can know more about particular model : (

Could you write / send me information about these models?

Hi maestro2912, welcome to the forum,

one thing I can tell you off-hand is that the UV1DR** is a 15" in 4:3 format and not a wide-screen model.

Unfortunately, in order to be more specific about the differences, it would be helpfull if you could supply the Type and Model numbers of the TPs in question. They normally appear on the details page and will look like :- 8943-DRF as an example.

You could also enter those numbers yourself on the support site and see if you can find the information you need there.

Accoring to some google search, NG18BCV is not R61i but R61e. How can I sort out what is true?
