Bios image file cannot be found

I have had all sorts of system issues since updating to Vista SP1 last weekend.  I have downloaded the new Bios, but it gives me the following:  Bios image file cannot be found.  The utility process has not completed.

Any ideas?

I am about to throw this unit out the window... and I am pretty computer savvy.  I can imagine what it must be like for a novice user.... (gets off soap box and awaits help).
Mike

Re: Bios image file cannot be found

michael56555, welcome to the forum,

have you tried using the bootable cd image file for updating your bios? It's linked to underneath the normal download file.

Andy

Re: Bios image file cannot be found

The page instructions state if you are using Vista with SP1 you _must_ use the bootable CD method.

This BIOS Update Utility updates the BIOS (system program including the Embedded Controller (EC) program) stored in the ThinkPad system to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

The following operating systems are supported:
- Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit
- Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit (*1)
- Microsoft Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional)
- Microsoft Windows 2000

Notes:
(1*) If Windows Vista 64-bit is already installed on your system, then you must use the bootable CD ISO format of this BIOS update.

Read again, the cd version must be used with 64 Bit Vista, it says nothing about SP1.

Re: Bios image file cannot be found

Don't feel bad about not reading the fine print.  Even though the bios update shows for the R61, the fine print did not list the 8918cto as one of the models the Bios update was slated for.  So I guess it wouldn't allow me to install it.  My problem was really trying to find out how to make SP1 work on my computer.  I am going to start a new post explaining that problem....what a nightmare it has been.
