CPU: Multicore test : misconfigured

Hi All! I am new to the community mainly because I have never had a problem with my R61 Thinkpad Laptop. Right to the point -  When I turn my laptop on it starts and goes to the windows loading screen the the screen goes black. The mouse still moves on it and that is it.  I have gone through all the diagnostics and the only problem is that it seems the CPU Multicore test is misconfigured. Is there anything I can do to fix this or is a factory default restore my only option? If that will even fix it.  I bought this computer in 2007 and don't understand why it would just quit, it has never been abused! If anybody has an answer it would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
