Hi there,
I am a happy owner of a lenovo L412 thinkpad.
The problem i am experiencing is with a clicking noise that comes from the harddisk.
- Occurs every few seconds, sometimes 12, sometimes 3.
- Sounds as if the head is parking and starting up.
- The hard drive LED is flickering quite alot when the laptop is idle.
- If the harddisk is buisy (extracting for example) the clicking stops.
- Os: Windows 7 professional
- HD: WDC WD3200BEVT 320GB 5400RPM.
- i5-480 processor
Sound of the clicking @ second 2,17,22 (the zooming is the fan that is working)
mp3
Could this be a defective hard drive or could there be another problem?
The laptop is quite new (270 days warranty left) And i can't miss it for a couple of days/weeks. So whats the best path to travel?
With Kind Regards,
Kwarkje

Hi there,
I have done the HDTune SMART tests, and nothing seems to be wrong. And about the energy settings, those were already turned off. Also, the shock protection is turned off.

Hello,
I have notebook Lenovo L420. I have the same problem with the noise. The notebook make unpleasant sound in undetermined chronology.
I have the same problem as Kwarkje. I think that the sound makes hard-disk.
Please give me advise (help me) what to do with it.
HARD DISK: ST9500420AS 500GB 7200RPM
I have the notebook 3 days.
Thanks
Karelka

It might be the same issue that Alpo described in his posts in this thread. There is a workaround for the clicking, but not for the sound of the drive turning on.
