Hi Colleennl and welcome to the forum!
AFAIK, lenovo has never officially released second HDD bay adapter for L and SL series. However, one of the poster has said it is possible to plug one in SL series:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/SL-Series-ThinkPad-Lap
L512 and SL500 both use "DVD burner, SATA 1.5Gb/s, 12.7mm high", so in theory it should be possible on L series too. Verify the compatibility before you buy though.
Hope this helps.
