For the past 6 months, every time I hit shut down or restart, my thinkpad goes into an error message, does a memory dump and says that I may have to upgrade my BIOS. I look on the System Information page and it says that my BIOS is the latest version 9/11/08 - I never upgraded my BIOS directly, just used the Thinkpad update utility and let it update for me. The information on that BIOS update says it's NOT for 64 bit Windows Vista, but I don't know how to find out if I have 64 bit or not.
I would like to: 1) make sure that I have the right and most updated BIOS for my system (that means knowing whether I have 64 bit Windows Vista (do have Vista) - the BIOS update page is confusing. 2) make sure I don't have any system viruses (scanning for that now). 3) if all else fails, completely reboot my system (and start over from scratch).
The error itself never takes my system down, it only shows up when I try to restart or shut off my computer. Since it has been "benign" I haven't put a lot of effort into solving it so far. I'm thinking I may be on borrowed time and should look into it.
Thanks for your help.
