Graphics issues

I recently got Windows 7 Professional 64 bit for my R61i. and ever since then whenever i plug/unplug my computer the screen with freak out, start blinking and 9 times out of 10 it will result in a blue screen. This is very troublesome for someone who is always on the move like i am. Windows 7 says my graphics chipset isnt up to date yet when it brings me to the correct update my DXDIAG says i ahev it already. i am confused and reallly need my laptop to stay alive for atleast another few months. (the laptop is two years old and has had no upgrades or changes except for a new hard drive. Any help would be appreciated.
