hyperthreading is only available in the Pentium 4 and Core i series CPU, but not the Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processors in the R61e thinkpads.

OK - thank you. Is there a way to disable speed step at all?

Thank you
I've done that now.
I wanted to ask specifically what the benefits of turning off core multi-processing are? I've tried & all it seems to do is disable one core?

I think it just saves power don't really know
Sometimes one of the core is faulty, turning off one core helps you to isolate that faulty core. Also, some applications have compatibility issues with multicore processors.
