Hi forum members. I am new to the forum but I do have a number of problems with my laptop that I am unable to solve, despite repeated efforts on my part. I hope someone can help me. My problems are as follows:-
1.Hardware update wizard cannot find necessary software and cannot install the software for the following:
Video controller (VGA compatible)
Network Controller
2.Digital volume display and mute graphical bar no longer works despite running System Update.
3.Battery fuel gage no longer displayed.
How do I fix the above.
Thanks in advance.

r32owner, welcome to the forum,
you can find all the drivers you need on this site, please take care to note the installation instructions.
The Video and Ethernet drivers are easy to find, for the volume display you need the HotKey driver and for the battery fuel guage you need the Battery MaxiMiser and Power Management.
If you need more assistance let us know and please then also post your Type and Model number
Hope this helps
Andy

I tried the video and ethernet and battery maximer download as was requested, but I have been told that those drivers are already installed.

What is telling you that they are already installed? Are you, where necessary extracting the drivers and then running the Setup files from the necessary directory?

Yes, there is a message that is telling me that drivers are already installed, if I want to overwrite - yes to all and no to all.

Unresolved problems that I still have are as follows:-
other devices (yellow question mark)
Network Controller (yellow question mark superimposed with a black exclamation point)
Unknown Device (yellow question mark superimposed with a black exclamation point)
Video Controller (VGA Compatible) (yellow question mark superimposed with a black exclamation point)
Thanks for help on the other issues that I had.

All of the problems have been solved, except one. I now have a yellow exclamation mark in front of "IBM High Rate Wireless LAN MiniPCI Combo Card #2." Before it, I had:
"other devices (yellow question mark)
Network Controller (yellow question mark superimposed with a black exclamation point)
Unknown Device (yellow question mark superimposed with a black exclamation point)"
On the list of downloadable drivers, the Ethernet driver is mentioned as "Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection" but that couldn't be the case as this driver is already listed in Device Manager and is working fine without conflict. So, I used a process of elimination and used all of the mentioned device drivers one after the other to see what would take and the above is what I am stuck with so far.

This should be the correct driver:
