I have a ThinkPad R40-2723-58U. BIOS 1.33, Internal Embedded Controller 1.14, Windows XP Pro SPx.
Any external PCMCIA wireless cards work, but when I add the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Network Internal Mini PCI Card, i get the error message, "Unauthorized Network Card detected..." and the computer does not boot. I have the latest versions of the BIOS, Embedded Controller etc for this model. What are my options to make this card work?

I looked at the specs for your unit and your systemboard will not handle that card. Even with the BIOS and EC updated, you will need to use a different card. If you have the FRU for that wireless card, I can look it up for you. Refer to the Lenovo support page below to look up all the FRU numbers for the wi-fi cards that are compatible with your unit.

then look under "Parts Information"

After some searching I did find a solution at http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/thinkpad-180
I used the CD version of the program to "fix" my BIOS. Worked absolutely fine in my case. The direct link to the zipped ISO file is http://www.command-tab.com/files/no-1802/no-1802-c
Another link to a similar program is http://www.congenio.de/infos/no1802.com
There are other potential solutions listed at http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_with_unautho
Hope others will benefit too.
