Intel Processor Whine R61

I have a T61, i've been using it since november. I've never heard any whine, except only on battery. But yesterday i have updated some drivers, it was Intel Matrix.. and Thinkpad Video features. and starting from yesterday evening i have a crazy sound..
i do think it is because of these new drivers, because it was all ok till yesterday. Now i'm under Freebsd and all ok, no whine at all, even on battery.

PS: i rolled back intel's matrix driver.. will try to do the same with video driver...

Yes!!! it worked, so i guess the problem was in display driver, at least in my case.

I had latest video driver: 6.14.10.4926 and had this whine
Now i re-installed video driver that i had with it from beginning(6.14.10.4785), i'm not sure it should be so old, but for sure not 4926.

Interesting findings, hopefully the Lenovo personel will find similar success for the rest of us!

I also have this problem with my R61i using T5450.  I sent my computer in to have it fixed, yet got it back without resolve but couple nice little scratches on the keyboard bezel...hopefully lenovo techs can resolve this, I will let them know that they haven't fixed the problem...

Well about three months into this thread and more and more people are saying me too!  I hope that Lenovo will not just ignore this as they push out the newer Core2's.
By th way anyone with a "newer" core2 having this issue?

All,

Would you try something else for me?  

1) Go into device manager and scroll down to the bottom.  

2) Scroll to the bottom and select the + on the Universal Serial Bus Controllers

3) When the list expands, scroll down to the last fix, which should be listed as USB ROOT HUB

4) Double click on the first one, and select the power management tab

5) Make sure the box is checked for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

6) Click ok, and repeat steps 4-5 for each of the other 4 hubs.

Lenovo preload images should have these turned on by default, but OEM versions of the OS may not enable this by default.

As electronic noises can be created by different things, this proceedure may or may not resolve symptoms for everyone on this thread.  

Please let us know the outcome here.

All USB root hubs are set to checked, so no difference was noted.

I just got my T61 yesterday with the 8300 processor.  The cpu whine noise when the computer was on battery was giving me a headache (I have very good hearing, even for someone over 30 ).  I went looking on the net for information, and found this thread as well as others.  I found it was a general problem with core 2 duos on laptops (to various degrees on different machines).

Changing the bios setting to turn off power management did fix the whine, but that reduced my battery life a bit.  This is a very annoying issue, and is making me have seconds thoughts about this computer.
