Hi jackl92,
AFAIK, lenovo has never officially released second HDD bay adapter for L and SL series. However, one of the poster has said it is possible to plug one in SL series:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/SL-Series-ThinkPad-Lap
L420 and SL500 both use "DVD burner, SATA 1.5Gb/s, 12.7mm high", so in theory it should be possible on L series too. Verify the compatibility before you buy though.
Hope this helps.

Yes you can.
I use 2 HDD on my L420.
all you need is caddy for the 2nd HDD. Choose the generic 12.7mm
you can find it on ebay from $10
then, you have to move the metal part from back of DVD bay to the caddy, so the caddy can be attached firmly to the chasis.

Hello all,
Did the second hard drive work in your computer?

It works. The OS will detect it and you can store files on it. You can't boot from or install windows on it.

Hello again yaro,
This is why your OS can recognize the drive but not BIOS.
