Only 1 optional memory slot in Thinkpad R51e (type 1843-A12)

Hi All,

I'm helping my mates in upgrading his memory's laptop from 512MB to 2GB;

As this model able to hold max of 2GB Memory, so I open up the memory back panel but surprisingly, I only able to find 1 memory slot? and the one that is attached is 256MB.

My question is, how/where can I find the other memory slot? is it hidden somewhere inside the laptop?

Thank you

Welcome to the forum!

To access the main RAM slot, you'll have to remove the keyboard.

Cheers,

George

Hi George,

Thanks in replying my post so quick. One more question though, according to Ben-J's post (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=R_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=5039); this particular laptop need specific DDR2 533 Memory?

Thank you

Re: Only 1 optional memory slot in Thinkpad R51e (type 1843-A12)

Machines from R4 and R5 generations with an "e" suffix are tricky when it comes to RAM...

The good news is that PC2-4200 and PC5300 RAM that these machines will work with is dirt cheap nowadays...

Good luck.

Cheers,

George
