This problem, judging by relevant threads elsewhere on this board, has not been solved by Lenovo these past three years. Now it is afflicting my IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad R52 1847W76. Ever since I updated its system yesterday via ThinkVantage System Update, I've been enduring the following box (and its sub-boxes) every few minutes:

I've updated the system via ThinkVantage System Update thrice already during the past 24 hours, but Microsoft's pop-up boxes keep on coming. (At one point, the ThinkVantage System Update uninstalled Rescue and Recovery then installed a zombie file of the same name.) I fear I'm going to be forced to uninstall Rescue and Recovery, if Microsoft persists in popping-up these dialog boxes. Helpful advice, of course, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Here is some system information:

Concatenating your three threads with the Windows issues (audio, Start menue customizing and this one) i recommend to install the Windows new, if possible. The (Windows)system seems to be rather instable.
The audio-problem might be a windows problem as well as a hardware problem. Do you get sometimes after plug-in an USB-device, that the device can run with higher performance after plug it to an USB 2.0 connector?

Thank you for your reply, Mornsgrans! I believe you are correct in postulating the installed Windows software has degenerated, chiefly because Explorer sometimes struggles with such simple tasks as displaying menus. Unfortunately in this case the machine was a gift, minus the Windows disks; hence I'm unable (unless I strike it rich, an unlikely scenario considering my rather limited pension) to reinstall the operating system. Alas!
As for the Universal Serial Bus connections, there are two: one is the cooling pad (power for its fans) and the other is an optical Microsoft wheel mouse. I regret to say, in regard to those two connections, I don't know enough about computing systems to determine more.

P.S.: I forgot to mention the Fast Restore Application problem finally got the better of me; and late last night I uninstalled it.

These two devices normally run under USB 1.1. An USB-Drive-stick runs under USB 2.0. If the mentioned above USB- message appears after plugging in an USB-drive, then a hardware-error is present.

Thanks again, Mornsgrans, for replying! Well, regarding the problem I was having with error messages pertaining to the Fast Restore Application, I decided to take the advice I repeatedly found whilst Web-surfing the problem: I uninstalled Rescue and Restore. The problem has not, obviously, reoccured and I'm happy about that; but I'm sorry this incompatibility between IBM/Lenovo and Microsoft software exists and hasn't been officially addressed via a solution from one or both of those manufacturers. So, to sum up, my personal solution to this problem was to uninstall Rescue and Restore.

Thanks for your reply, ColonelONeill! I'll have to give your suggestion some thought.... *has daymare about local machine becoming another doorstop or paperweight*

I went to take your survey, but it's about "T"-model machines. Speaking of batteries, I'm wondering where to find a battery for my "R'-model machine: Lenovo has decided to remove "R"-model batteries from its shop.
