R400 maximum RAM?

Hello all.

I was just wondering if someone could give me a definite answer on whether the R400 series(7438-T6U) can support upto 8GB ram or just 4GB.

I see specs/info stating both. Like on the Lenovo site, the data sheet says 8GB, but this page says 4GB. Various other websites have these contradicting specs as well, and even the Crucial memory website says it can take upto 8GB of Ram.

I'm hoping someone can clarify this or if anyone's successfully installed more than 4gb of Ram, feel free to chime in.

Thanks:smileyhappy:

Make sure you have the right operating system in order to utilize the amount of RAM that you want to install....

Re: R400 maximum RAM?

I hate to add to the confusion, but the tabook says 4G max.  Since it is describing specific models, maybe it is referring to available configurations, as opposed to supported configurations?  Or am I just misreading it?

@lead_org,  can you shed some light on that?

[ Edited ]

when the spec of the R400, T400, W500, T500, etc were released, they were tested only up to 4 gigs ram, since there was no 4 gigs DDR3 modules. So the spec sheet just reflect that.

But you can definitely upgrade these machine to 8 gigs of ram.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-70110  <--- this document lists that the R400/500 officially supports 8 gigs of ram.

Re: R400 maximum RAM?

Hello!

Don't wanna add new thread about RAM in R400, so I'm gonna ask you  here.

Is it worth to add a second stick of ram to my R400 (graphic card: Intel 4500 MHD, processor: C2D T6670, Win7 32-bit, 2GB RAM 1066 MHz)? I sometimes work with ChemCAD, making some MS Excel, Word documents but mostly I surf the web.

Re: R400 maximum RAM?

Is there anything special we need to do to make the 4GB dimms work in the R400? We've upgrade the BIOS, but still can't get them to work consistently (sometimes they do, mostly they don't).

Thanks.
