I've recently bought a PCMCIA (PC Card) CompactFlash adapter for my notebook. I want to use it for copying pictures from my 2GB Sandisk Extreme III CF card. This CF cardis capable of 30 MB/sec. In the PCMCIA adapter it performs 1MB/sec read/write speeds, but with a USB 2.0 card reader its very fast! When moving data to/from the card through the PCMCIA adapter, the CPU usage is high, therefore I think it's not using DMA.
I started investigating the PCMCIA adapter, but it seems, it has only wires, no controllers or other electronics in that kind of adapters. Then I looked at Vista's Device Manager, PCMCIA IDE/ATAPI Controller properties. It shows that there is one ATA disk in PIO Mode 4, the Enable DMA checkbox is disabled unfortuately.
Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks
